As a leading British manufacturer of electric heating, ThermoSphere are not only committed to leading the charge in changing the way homes are heated, but we’re also committed to reducing our operational impact on the environment.
With that, one of the biggest changes you’ll see this year will be to our product packaging. From May 2023 we’ll be phasing in our brand-new packaging which has been re-designed as well as made fully recyclable and compostable! The transition will start with our shipping cartons, ThermoSphere Mesh electric underfloor heating and our new ThermoSphere Membrane Heating Cables.
We believe sustainability is fundamental throughout our product’s entire lifecycle, from ideation to creation all the way to our customer’s doorstep, leading to this re-design.
Choosing non-laminated cardboard and single colour print reduces the number of processes and manufacturing methods required to create our packaging and in turn, reduces our impact on the environment generated both in the creation and disposal of our boxes.
We’re proud to be making the right changes by taking steps like these, all whilst delivering the same great products.
You’ll start to see more than just changes to boxes. We’re now working towards creating eco-alternatives for any materials or components within the boxes themselves, including single use items like plastic wraps, plastic bags, and rubber bands. So, you’ll start to see these changing too!
For example, the new Membrane Heating Cables do not feature any unnecessary plastic at all. The plastic handles on the boxes have gone and so have the plastic cable reels, rubber bands, cable ties and plastic cable wrap. We’ve changed to a recyclable paper cable wrap and the cable reels are now made of recyclable card with a steel reel.
As well as our eco-conscious decisions to better our packaging, as a company we’re continuing to strive to do better. In doing so, we’ve recently been awarded the bronze sustainability rating from EcoVadis, an independent rating agency that assesses a broad range of non-financial management systems which includes Environmental, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement impacts. It includes a global network of over 75,000 companies of different sizes across all industries and our bronze rating means we’re in the top 50%!
This award is our first step towards an ongoing monitoring process of our own environmental practices at ThermoSphere HQ and is something we’re committed to continually improving.
