21 Harley Street
London
Case Study Overview
Harley Street in Marylebone in central London is renowned for being the location for some of the very best healthcare professionals with over 5,000 operating in and around the area. The Grade II listed buildings have housed many icons of the medical world including Florence Nightingale who lived at Number One.
When we were approached by the MSMR Architects who were working on the refurbishment of 21 Harley Street, we were only too happy to help. As a Grade II listed building there were limitations on the heating systems that could be used for the property. The original sub floor had to be retained and that meant the system could not be fixed or screwed down to the substrate. Another consideration was the output of the system which needed to be bespoke.
Another aspect to this project was the different floor finishes and due to the complexity of the refurbishment we put forward two simple solutions – ThermoSphere Foil with cement board overlay in most areas and ThermoSphere Membrane in the bathroom areas at a bespoke design output of 100w/m2.
Each heating zone was controlled using our single channel programmable thermostat and our Dual Control thermostat for the bathrooms which allowed control of both underfloor heating and an additional heating appliance such as an electric towel bar.
